The global Reiki community is still relishing the exposure received by well known cardiothoracic surgeon and popular TV host, Dr Mehmet Oz. Oz declared Reiki his: “Number one alternative medicine secret” on his program of January 6, 2010.

Reiki Australia was invited to offer first hand experience of Reiki to visitors at a World Mental Health Day event at Zilllmere Community Centre, Brisbane on October 2009.

Reiki Australia members provided an experience of Reiki to delegates at the Australasian Integrative Medicine Association’s (AIMA) conference in St Kilda, Victoria on the weekend of 9-11 October 2009.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Fran Brown on Easter Sunday 2009. Fran was one of the 22 masters initiated by Hawayo Takata, and she devoted her life to Reiki. She is greatly respected and loved throughout the Reiki community, and will be missed by everyone who had the honour of knowing her. Her humour and zest for life were amazing and inspiring.

In 1992 Eileen Chapman founded the Reiki clinic at Windana Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal and Assessment Centre in Mebourne. Since then, this highly successful program has delivered thousands of Reiki treatments. Lynette Kirkman came to Reiki in 1985 by Marta Getty who was teaching in Australia. She was initiated as a Master in 1989 by Marta. Congratulations to paralympic cyclist and Reiki Australia member, Lindy Hou, on an awesome Beijing campaign. Vision-impaired Lindy, and her pilot, Toireasa Gallagher, stood on the podium twice during these games, claiming a bronze medal in the 1000m time trial and silver in the 3000m pursuit.

Reiki master Beth Gray passed away peacefully in her home in San Carlos last Wednesday afternoon 13th May 2008, aged 90.

Reiki Australia member Lindy Hou and her pilot Toireasa Gallagher are well underway in their preparations for Beijing. They have claimed two silver and two bronze medals at the 2007 UCI Para-Cycling World Championships, in Bordeaux, France.

Cath Maddox, Reiki practitioner, and a speaker at Reiki Australia’s 2006 “Reiki - Touching Lives” conference, has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship for 2008 in her role as Counselling, Education and Spiritual Care Coordinator for The Hopewell Centre.
